I have just spent 2 weeks of pure hell trying to get a Java stack to install on a production system for one of my customers. 2 weeks of system restore, stress, pulling my hair out, emotional breakdowns and self doubt. Finally I had to lower my pride and admit to myself that I am not a stud and I need help. I had to reach out to my team members (who are virtual) and ask for help. Within minutes they were on the phone with and their extra set of eyes helped me fix the problem.
This was a huge lesson for me to learn. Since I started working at SAP I had been very self reliant and have been able to resolve all my problems on my own. I forgot I had an entire team I could turn to for help.
I realize that this is a huge character flaw for me. I often try to handle everything on my own and usually when it gets to be too much I have a meltdown and my poor husband is usually on the receiving end.
When I started traveling again I asked my husband to help out more because summer is here and I will have to fly out on Sunday night. To my surprise he has. He has been a great support over the last 2 weeks and has been extremely helpful around the house. I tease him and ask where my real husband is. Maybe his selfishness was in the lens they took out of his eye or maybe it is because I assertively asked for help.
No man is an island. Everyone needs somone they can reach out to for help. That is why we should always try to be a good neighbor and look for those who may not have that support system that is so important.
Thanks Steve. Without his help or the help of my family who knows where I would be today.
